Gazing at the cosmos, it’s only natural for humanity to ponder what – or who – else might exist out there. Some have taken this curiosity to cosmic heights, founding belief systems centered on celestial beings and extraterrestrial teachings. While eccentric and unbelievable to many, these interstellar-inspired cults attract devoted followers. From messages from alien commanders to past lives on distant planets, here are some of the most otherworldly, sci-fi-esque religious movements born from our fascination with the mysteries of outer space.
The Nuwaubian Nation
Founded by Dwight York, this fringe religious movement has roots in esoteric beliefs like Ancient Egypt mysticism, UFO religions, and cryptozoology. They believe in achieving spiritual transformation through contacting extraterrestrial beings.

Ashtar Galactic Command
Followers believe in Commander Ashtar and his fleet of spaceships that are here to guide and protect humanity. They claim to receive telepathic messages from Ashtar and other cosmic entities.
I AM Movement
Founded in the 1930s by Guy Ballard, this movement is based on the teachings of the Ascended Masters, especially Saint Germain. While not exclusively extraterrestrial, it incorporates beliefs about the lost continents of Lemuria and Atlantis, as well as other-dimensional cities.
