We’ve all experienced buyer’s remorse.
Whether it’s the changing room mirrors playing tricks on you or the online purchase just doesn’t look the same, returns and exchanges are essential. Luckily, most brands offer returns and exchanges within a certain period.
Old Navy is one of the most flexible stores when it comes to refunds. They can even pick up the online order or supply you with a prepaid shipping label if you prefer to ship the items yourself. Keep reading this guide to learn how Old Navy returns work.
How Do Old Navy Returns Work?
Old Navy is an incredibly customer-friendly store. Whether you’ve bought an item online or in-store, making a return is a breeze. Here’s everything you need to know:
- Timeframe: You have 30 days from the date of purchase to return most items, giving you plenty of time to decide if your purchase is perfect for you.
- Conditions: Just because you’re contemplating your purchase doesn’t mean you should try it on hundreds of times! Your item must be in its original condition, unworn, and with tags attached.
- Exceptions: Unfortunately, some items have different return policies. These include intimates and final sale items. So, it’s best to double-check before purchasing these items, ensuring you don’t end up with something you dislike.
- Proof of Purchase: If you want to return any item at Old Navy, it’s crucial to have the original purchase receipt, whether it’s a physical copy or an e-receipt.
- Accessible Returns: You don’t need to leave the comfort of your home to refund Old Navy items. Instead, the store offers a mail-in return option. Prefer the old-school way? Visit any Old Navy store, and they’ll gladly assist you with the return.
- Refund Process: Your refund will typically be issued to the original form of payment. The refund time frame depends on your bank’s policy. So, be patient! It might take a bit for the funds to reflect.
Old Navy Returns: Online vs. In-Store
Returning your Old Navy items depends on how you purchased them in the first place. You can’t just mail in your order just because you don’t want to go to the store!
Instead, mail returns are reserved for online orders only. Fortunately, they’re completely free!
As for in-store returns, you can return your online order to the nearest Old Navy location. That said, you might find that some online Old Navy purchases are marked “return by mail only.”
If you purchased an item at a specific store but can’t revisit it, don’t worry. You can return it in-person at any other Old Navy store, granted you still have the original receipt.
Ineligible Items for Return at Old Navy
Old Navy, like many stores, has restrictions on which items are eligible for returns or exchanges. After all, the returned items must be resold later.
Here are all the items you won’t be able to return after purchasing, even if you’re making a return during the 30-day window:
- Final Sale Items: Once you’ve snagged a final sale item, that’s it—no returns or exchanges allowed. That’s because these items will no longer be available in Old Navy’s system.
- Specific Product Categories: Items like underwear, swimwear, and masks can’t be returned or exchanged for hygiene reasons.
- Damaged/Worn Items: You must return the items in the same condition as you purchased them. This means the clothes should be unaltered, clean, and with the tags still attached.
- Brand-Specific Returns: Gap, Banana Republic, and Old Navy are all subsidiaries of Gap Inc. However, this doesn’t mean you can return the items at any store. Each brand’s returns and exchanges must happen at the brand of purchase.
- Third-party Sellers: If you’ve purchased an item through a third-party seller, it’s only natural that Old Navy won’t accept the refund. For starters, you won’t have the receipt. Additionally, there’s no way for Old Navy to authenticate the item. Instead, you should directly contact the seller.
How to Return Online Orders From Old Navy
Whether you’re having regrets or the online purchase doesn’t look quite right in real life, returning online purchases to Old Navy is stress-free.
Home Pick-Up
First, you can opt for Home Pick-Up by following these simple steps:
- Start Your Return
Begin the process using Old Navy’s interactive returns tool in the Returns portal. Then, choose “Home Pick-up” as your return method.
This means an Old Navy delivery driver will meet you at a designated spot of your choosing to pick up the item, without the need to contact UPS.
- Get Your QR Code
After filling out the online form, check your return confirmation email for the Home Pick-up QR code. This code is crucial, as the delivery driver will use it to verify your identity and the items.
- Schedule Your Pick-up
After scheduling the pick-up, you don’t need to get a mail label or an Old Navy package. If you’ve lost the original shipping package, that’s fine!
All you have to do is prepare to meet the delivery driver, show them the QR code, and hand them the items.
Mail-In
If you don’t want to wait to schedule a pick-up, you can take things into your own hands instead. Follow these step-by-step instructions to return your items through mail:
- Create a Prepaid Label
In the Old Navy Returns portal, create a prepaid UPS label to mail your items free of charge. If you skip the prepaid label, the return shipping fees are at your expense.
- Pack Your Items
Next, carefully identify the items you want to return and pack them, preferably in the original package. Make sure you include the return shipping label and the packing slip.
- Drop Off the Items
Finally, drop off the package at the nearest UPS location. There’s no need to pay or track the shipment. UPS will handle it from here!
How Old Navy Refunds Work
After returning your purchase, the next step would be getting the money back. For in-store purchases paid in cash, you’ll get a refund immediately.
On the other hand, if you paid through a credit card, you have to keep in mind that this takes time, typically 10 days. However, this period ultimately depends on your bank’s policies.
Additionally, Old Navy doesn’t accept cash on delivery purchases. So, any online orders will be refunded to your bank account.
Once your refund is processed, you’ll get an email confirmation. You might find that the amount refunded is short a couple of dollars. That’s because the original shipping charges are non-refundable.
How to Return Gifts to Old Navy
Have you received a gift from Old Navy that’s not quite right? You can still return these items!
Yet, since returns are refunded to the original payment method, you won’t be able to make a refund. Instead, Old Navy can exchange the items.
You also have the option of getting a gift card, which you can use at Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta—both in-store and online.
First, you can mail in your gift. All you have to do is navigate Old Navy’s return portal and choose the gift inbox to prepare a gift invoice.
Then, you’ll need to add the codes of the items you’re returning and the address where the gift card should be sent.
This ensures that the gift card accurately reflects the value of the gift. You’ll also need to include the original invoice in the shipment.
Alternatively, you can go to your nearest Old Navy store with the invoice. Inform the salesperson that you’d like to exchange your items for a gift card. It’s that simple!
If you don’t have the invoice or the gift receipt, you can only get a merchandise certificate. This is a special gift card that you can only use in-store.
Can I Return a Gift Card to Old Navy?
Old Navy is incredibly flexible with its return policy. You can even return gift cards, as long as they’re valid, of course!
That said, the refund will be processed to the original credit card. So, if you’ve gotten a gift card as a present, you can’t get its value in cash.
Returning During the Holiday Period
The Holiday season is the perfect time for shopping. With all the hassle, you might pick up the wrong size or have severe post-purchase regrets.
You don’t need to worry, though. You can still return your purchases once the Holidays are over. For items bought online or in-store from October 15 to December 24, you’ve got some extra time.
You can return your purchase by January 15 of the next year or within 30 days from the delivery date or the date of purchase, whichever gives you more time.
To Conclude
Old Navy returns are incredibly simple. If you have proof of purchase, you can contact the brand to pick up your items, mail your return for free via UPS, or drop it off at the store.
Additionally, if you’ve received a gift that just doesn’t look right, Old Navy will happily give you a gift card instead. Things couldn’t be easier!
