There are several stores and companies that offer grocery shopping and delivery services. Many busy people, professionals, vacationers, and the elderly use these type of services all the time. Also some people don’t have transportation to and from the grocery store. You can be a help to all these type of people.
Many stores and services contract shoppers and delivery people. The more populated your area is, the more likely companies will be needing shoppers there. You could always go into business for yourself, but you can also check out these companies.
- Safeway – They hire personal shoppers for their locations nationwide
- Instacart – You can sign up to be a shopper, cashier, driver, or shopper + driver
- Shipt – They are hiring in 10 states at this time.
- Uber – Uber now offers delivery services where you can bring people things.
- Amazon Flex – Right now you can deliver for Amazon in more than 30 cities.
How much money can I make?
Shipt claims their shoppers make between $15-$25 an hour (plus tips). Instacart allows you to set your own hours and earn up to $25 per hour during peak hours (Sundays, Mondays and evenings). Amazon Flex says you can make $18-$25 an hour. If you are pretty familiar with your city and know where things are in the grocery store you could probably be very fast and efficient.
What are the requirements?
Most require that you have a reliable vehicle and be at least 18 years of age. You will probably also need a smartphone with data service. Make sure you also are physically able to lift heavier items like bottled water, cat litter, etc.

After reading some reviews on working as a personal shopper, most people love the flexible schedule and the ability to be your own boss. The most common cons were the price of gas and the wear and tear on your vehicle.
